Ein Bokek (Dead Sea) Waste-water Treatment Plant
General Background Ein Bokek W.W.T.P serves all of the hotels and the touristic facilities along the Dead-Sea areas of Ein-Bokek, Hamey-Zohar and Neve-Zohar, as well as the Tamar regional council. The plant was originally built in the early 80's and was expanded in the late 90's due to the accelerated construction activities in the touristic zones. The plant consists of the original module plus two new modules. A significant challenge in the plant's design was the very high salinity value of the incoming wastes, due it's proximity to the Dead Sea. The process designed by BJIS successfully addressed this challenge. The effluents are re-used for public gardening along the streets surrounding the hotels. BJIS provided general design and complete detailed design services for the original construction, and for the expansion. Basic Design Data Average Design Flow (m3/day): 5,100 Average B.O.D. Load (Kg/day): 1,700 Effluent Quality (BOD/TSS/N): 15/15/10 ![]()
Haifa Regional Waste-water Treatment Plant
General Background This W.W.T.P serves 11 municipalities with a population of 800,000. The treatment plant was originally built in the early 60's for a population of 225,000 and was the first municipal sewage treatment plant in Israel. The first expansion and upgrading of the W.W.T.P took place in the mid 70's to increase its capacity for a population of 560,000. The second upgrading and expansion took place in the late 90's to increase its capacity for a population of 800,000. BJIS prepared the general and detailed designs of the first and second expansion including process, civil, mechanical, and electrical and control engineering, and provided general supervision of the construction. Basic Design Facts Average Design Flow (m3/day): 120,000 Average B.O.D. Load (Kg/day): 69,000 Effluent Quality (BOD/TSS/N): 15/15/10 ![]()

Shafdan (Greater Tel-Aviv) Sludge Treatment Facilities General Background The Shafdan WWTP presently treats approximately 370,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, contributed by the entire Dan (Greater Tel-Aviv) Region. The wastewater is biologically treated by the Activated Sludge process, characterized by a short sludge age, typically 3 days (SRT), while the waste activated sludge (WAS) is discharged to the sea through an outfall pipe. According to a recently formed environmental policy, the discharge of WAS to the sea will be discontinued, and replaced by an alternative system of sludge disposal. BJIS prepared the general and the detailed designs of the sludge thickening and dewatering facility which will be required for any following process which will be selected for the sludge disposal. The services included process, civil, mechanical electrical, and control engineering, and general supervision of construction. Basic Design Data Volume of Waste Activated Sludge - WAS (m3/day): 25,600 - 32,000 WAS Solids Weight (Ton dry solids/day): 192 ![]()
Tel-Adashim Regional Waste-water Treatment Plant General Background This plant is a part of the regional project for the reuse of effluent in the Izra'el valley. This plant serves the municipalities of Nazareth, Nazerat-Illit, Yafia and several rural villages of Izra'el regional council, with a population equivalent of 150,000. The plant was originally built in 1994 (1st phase) and expanded during 2003 (2nd phase). At present the plant consists of semi-intensive facilities, i.e. a combination of anaerobic and aerated earth lagoons. Due to more updated and stringent regulation for the quality of the effluent to be reused in the Izra'el valley, a new B.N.R activated sludge module, designed by BJIS is now under construction. BJIS provided general and complete detailed design services for both phases of construction, and currently designs the new B.N.T Activated sludge module.
